Guest Speaker: Speakers from the Oregon Department of Employment

June is the month of graduations. High school and most college students graduate in June. At the same time as these graduates will be on the market for jobs, employers continue to look for employees that are a good "fit" for their companies. As employers "shop" for employees, what do they need to know about this "new crop" of graduates? Today's speaker will give MBA business owner insights into the graduating class of 2019 and more.

Guest Speaker: Scott Morrow with Ethos (https://ethos.org/)

    About Ethos Music Center

Since 1998, Ethos has been providing high-impact music instruction and outreach programming to underserved youth in Portland and throughout rural Oregon. We serve an average of 1,500 youth per year through summer camps, workshops, and group and private lessons at our headquarters in North Portland. Through a longstanding partnership with the Portland Children’s Levy, we provide after-school music instruction to nearly 500 students in 14 low-income Portland schools, and our rural program (a partnership with the federal AmericCorps program) places 10 full-time volunteers to live and work as music instructors in low-income rural communities, serving more than 2,000 students each year.

    * We believe that all children deserve the academic and social benefits of music education, regardless of their socioeconomic status, geographic location, race, ethnicity, religious belief, country of origin, abilities or disabilities, gender identity or sexual orientation.

    * We believe that music education has the power to create community and our differences should be valued, fostered and appreciated.

    * We believe in creating inclusive programming, responsive to the communities that we serve.

    About Scott Moore

Prior to joining Ethos as Executive Director, Scott Moore spent more than a decade working in leadership positions in nonprofit organizations and political campaigns. Prior to working for advocacy organizations, Scott built a successful career as a journalist. From 2005-2007, he was the Political News Editor for the Portland Mercury, covering City Hall, the Oregon State Legislature, and ballot measure campaigns. Previously, he was the International News Editor for Pollstar Magazine, a prominent concert industry trade magazine, and was an award-winning writer of feature stories about immigrant workers for the Labor Community Alliance magazine.

Scott served on the Ethos Board of Directors from 2012 to 2015, and was elected by the board to the positions of Vice President and Chair of the Board. His tenure on the board saw the launch of the annual Ovation Gala, which has become Ethos’ premier fund-raising event.

Like everyone involved in Ethos, he considers music and music education his lifeblood. Scott lives in North Portland with his wife, Christie, and two young sons.
