I did it. Finished, done! What a great ride. 70 miles from Carlton, Oregon to the coast at Pacific City. I want to thank all my donors. My goal was to raise $1000. I came in with $823. Thank you to all my wonderful friends and my business associates for donating to this wonderful cause.
The ride was so much more fun than I thought it would be. The American Lung Association had this dialed in with four rest areas stocked with dozens of volunteers, and an amazing assortment of energy foods.
The weather forecast approaching the event was gruesome. It looked like rain, wind, and cold. The morning of the ride the roads wet with a drizzle of rain in the air. That only lasted about 20 minutes. Then it was only cloudy until about halfway through, and then the sun came out. The weathers gods were with us.
We rode through beautiful farmlands, crossing rivers on one lane bridges, winding through the forest, and then out to the beach. Seeing the first site of Haystack Rock in Pacific City gave us an electrifying boost, even though we had another 15 or so miles to go.
The final 3 miles were brutal. We were there, but still 3 miles to go. As we approached, we heard the crowd cheering and the DJ, yelling; YOU HAVE REACHED – THE BEACH.
Then it was us turning into the finish line, and the DJ giving us the YOU HAVE REACHED – THE BEACH.
I am so glad I did this ride, and the commitment resulting from your donations, made the ride even better.
Thank you again.
