In 1981, after graduating from PSU with an accounting degree and discovering that she didn’t enjoy working at corporate accounting firms, Beth Buffetta—Business Works’ owner and CEO—opened her own, home-based accounting business. Since then, Beth has operated out of her home in Southeast Portland. For decades, Business Works has been lucky to enjoy a lot of amazing word-of-mouth success, particularly in the world of Portland’s amazing and varied small businesses, and now works with over 100 local businesses.
I love that I get to work with so many different types of clients, from restaurant owners and bartenders to contractors and day care services. To me, accounting is like putting together a puzzle—working on someone’s books is like sitting down and pulling together many little pieces of financial information to make a perfect financial picture. Bring me your disparate pieces, your shoe boxes full of receipts and back logs of invoices — I love nothing more than bringing organization to your financial life and that of your business. As a small business owner myself, I deeply understand the specific needs of and demands on small business owners and love helping fellow Portland businesses not just survive, but thrive. When I’m not working with clients, I enjoy being an active member of both my local Montavilla community as well as the greater Portland community. My perfect day starts at the farmers market and ends with enjoying a great play or musical.
